My Music, My Jukebox: Backyard Babies

Here's my second post on "my music, my jukebox". My life hasn't gone any calmer with the horses, work and "stuff" but am still trying to keep up with my promise.

I don't even remember how many years back I got this home burnt cd from a friend. It was my first introduction to the Backyard Babies. And what can I say?! I immediately felt connected with the music and that rock star way of living. True rock stars! It was a couple of years ago that I saw the Babies here in Tampere. After that they got concentrated on their side projects; Nicke Borg on his solo material and his radio show; and Dregen went on to play with Michael Monroe and eventually started working on his own solo album. But last year it was announced that the Babies will work on new music. They have also announced that their 2015 tour will kick of at Sweden Rock Festical in Sölvesborg, Sweden. A month later they will play at Ruisrock in Turku. I'll be there.

So happy to be able to wear my Backyard Babies t-shirt once again. It's not like I couldn't wear it on a daily basis. I just don't want. It's too much of a dear memory. That t-shirt.

ps Backyard Babies also come from Sweden...

My Music, My Jukebox: Brainpool

As I have put in the introduction it's "my music, my stuff". I think I have neglected "my music" for quite some time, already. I don't mean it like posting a song every once in a while but in a bigger context. So, from now on I'll be introducing my favorite music, my favorite bands to be more exact. And instead of going into musical facts and lyrical statements I probably tell how I first heard of that band in question. My life is rather hectic with all the horses, work and "stuff" now so for over the next twelve months you get exactly twelve posts regarding my music, my jukebox. Sorry for that.

I start with Brainpool.
They come from Lund, Sweden, and had their share of the limelights in the mid-90s. I got my first listening on the band when both me and my sister were still living at our parents - in the mid-90s: My sister had gone to Helsinki with her class, like a field trip. She bought me my prom shoes (do you still remember Decadenz in Helsinki?) that I still have (btw). My sister later said that she only bought the Brainpool Soda album just because it was on sale and the cover of the album was cool. I gave Soda a listen and immediately fell in love. Every once in a while I still pull my Brainpool albums out of the boxes and take a trip on my memory line.

I chose here two songs: Invisible to Her (taken from their second album Painkiller) and Every Day (taken from their first album, Soda). Have a listen and make up your own mind!

When was this photo taken?
I honestly can't say. But what I c a n say is that I bought that Mickey Mouse t-shirt in Bangkok in 2000. And I got my Canon ixus in 2001 (the camera I used back then). So, let's just say that this pic was taken for more than a decade ago. And we haven't changed a bit, have we?

ps my hair looks better now, though.
pss I still have that t-shirt. Is it already vintage?

I'm So Stupid...

Or should I say "technically retarded"? Of course this doesn't apply to, um, like, everything but in this case that's really the case: technically retarded.

I've got two Apple laptops, one for work, and one for "not work". It wasn't until recently that I realized that you can do this with the cord. It all makes sense, now. And I don't have to fold the cord in knots to make sure it sticks to the charger when traveling, not any more.

Tämän päivän liikunta koostui sauvakävelystä, kuminauhajumpasta sekä reisi-, peppu- ja vatsajumpasta. Käytiin myös keilaamassa. Mieletön fiilis!
ps sauvakävelyssä kului Sports Trackerin mukaan reilun viiden kilometrin matkalla yli 300 kcal. Vauhti ei päätä huimannut, koska samaan aikaan tapahtui myös savolaista suunnistusta.

Moon aiva räyryksis!

Telkkari toi äänen ja kuvan hotellihuoneeseeni aamukahdeksalta. Emmä jaksa...
Suihkun kautta biksuihin, nokka kohti vesijumppaa.
Äitini harrastaa vesijumppaa, ja nyt voi tytärkin sanoa kokeilleensa. Pötkylän kanssa tehtiin erilaisia harjoitteita: jaloille, käsille, kropalle. Tärkeintä oli pitää raajat vedenpinnan alapuolella, mikä oli verraten hankalaa, kun vesi oli alimmillaan 120 sentissä. Kuumavesialtaan (veden lämpötila 37 astetta) kautta suihkuun. Huomenna saatan kokeilla kylmävesiallasta (veden kylmyystila 7 astetta). Tai sitten en.

Aamupala ja ensimmäisten päiväunien aika.

Päiväunien jälkeen, kello 11.15, kuntotestejä, joissa testattiin motoriikkaa, lihaskuntoa sekä liikkuvuutta. Kaikkien testien perusteella huippukuntoinen likka... Tosin ennen testejä arvioin oman fyysisen kuntoni "huonoksi", sillä kuntosaliharjoittelu on jäänyt minimiin (lue: ostin jumppapallon ja katsoin parin minuutin pätkän jumppapallon käytöstä Youtubesta). Tutustumista kuntosalilaitteisiin, joissa lähdin heti tavoittelemaan kuuta taivaalta... Jalkaprässiin oma pr - eikä noussut. Ja katajaan kapsahdin... Tietysti peripohjalaiseen tapaan lähdin syyttämään vehkeitä. Ja kyllä minä niin sille jalkaprässille vielä näytän!

Lounas ja toisten päiväunien aika.

Päiväunien jälkeen, klo 14.15, oli aika keskustelujen aiheesta "liikunta ja paino". Keskustelujen jälkeen oli vuorossa happihyppely hotellin ympäristössä. Paikallisia kiviä ja kannon nokkia. Muutama juoksuspurtti. Venyttelyt sekä manikyyri.

Oh boy!
It's summer, this summer. Or should I say "last summer"? Well, any way, I'm referring to t h a t summer that we had like less than fours months ago here. I'm sunbathing. And my sister's dog, mr. Ukko, is sitting o n me!

We had a nice walk earlier that day. It was so sunny and hot that I felt like sucking some Sun in. I even had a blanket put in the shadow, for mr. Ukko. But, as you can see in the pic, he's sitting on me. There we were: me trying to get some Sun, mr. Ukko wanting to sit on me.

It looks like I'm having a lot of fun (few months back).

And, indeed, I am!

I got my driver's license when I was like 19. I got my license during the winter time, and I just didn't drive. I was afraid of the icy roads, snow, and all that. Now I love driving my dad's Jeep Grand Cherokee! But don't let this pic fool you. I'm a girl with many talents: I can drive a scooter, too (no matter what). And safety comes first even if I (you) look like a dork. Remember that, fool!

ps this one's for you, my dear sister Marika! You were the most hardcore Scooter fan that I know.

It's me!
It's my two teeth!
And my big (huge!) smile.

My mom told me that I didn't like to just sit down and have my pictures taken when I was a kid. *) That's why you cannot see the summer hat my mom knitted me in the picture (and she knitted it especially for that special day in my (special) life). I still have that dress hanging in my closet at my parents. **) But we haven't seen that hat ever since.

*) This applies to my day-to-day life even today...

Mushroom

I've been an avid photographer for as long as I can remember.
I got my first camera when I was eight or nine years old. I started with our cats and rabbits (and my sister). Then I moved on to horses and rock stars (and my sister's dog mr. Ukko). Now I am taking photos of mushroom... Don't ask me if they are eatable or not. *)

I'm practising baseball in July.
And I sucked!
I got 14 (and a half) missed bats (out of 16 bats). I guess I got "out" in baseball terms.
Even though Finnish baseball (pesäpallo) is quite popular here in Finland I was surprised by the fact that there are eight baseball teams here, even one in Tampere. The teams have interesting names such as tigers, bullets, mets, boars, pirates, and black sox.

Tapahtuma: Suvi-Vintage (29.6.2014, Tallipihalla Tampereella)

Suomen kesää uhmaten päätimme ystäväni kanssa tutustua naapurissani järjestettyyn Suvi-Vintage-tapahtumaan. Viikonlopun ajan Tallipihalla on voinut tutustua 30-lukuun ja lomailuun. Ohjelmaan on sisältynyt niin miesvoimistelua kuin tänään järjestetty muotinäytös, jossa nähtiin 30-50-lukujen loma- ja ranta-asuja sekä muita vintage-asuja. Kaupan oli myös vintage-aarteita sekä erilaisia käsityöläisten tuotteita.

Kierreltyämme tapahtuma-alueella hienoisessa tihkusateessa pistäydyimme Tallipihan Suklaapuodissa. Kotiin lähtiessämme huomasin historian elävoittämisseura Etulinjan esittelyn. Etulinja pyrkii kuvaamaan yksittäisten, tavallisten sotilaiden elämää toisen maailmansodan etulinjoissa mahdollisimman aidolla tavalla varustautuen ja toimien. Etulinja edustaa "elävän historian toimintaa". Tuntemattoman sotilaan hengessä pyysin saada kokeilla esillä olevia aseita. Näin silmissäni kohtauksen Tuntemattomasta sotilaasta: "Ja KK:ta ei jätetä!" Vaan olisin minä sen kk:n jättänyt. Kannatellessani yli kahtakymmentä kiloa rautaa käsivarsillani kiitän hiljaa mielessäni niitä suomalaisia miehiä, jotka puolustivat isänmaatani. Ja kannattelivat sen painoa käsivarsillaan.

We are walking on Lake Näsijärvi a couple of winters ago (19.2.2012).
It's just snow, ice, snow shoes.
And a pair of Uggs.
And mr. Ukko.

ps can you, just by having a quick look at the photo, say that I'm as depressed as one can be in his / her life? Well, believe me. A month prior to walking on snow shoes I almost committed suicide. But, hey, it's #tbt. I've never been this happy in my life before (well, maybe on some occasions). I'm, like, living my life to the fullest. I've found that inner peace in me. And that's all that matters - to me.
